When Death
Poem 72 of 95

When Death
When death embraces the mother,
she forgets her children entirely,
deaf-dumb to their sufferings,
with death she quickly runs off dancing.
And death is a good dancer,
he holds her in his arms securely,
the mother lifts her feet,
ever lighter, ever quicker, ever quicker.
He hugs her and kisses her more and more
and turns, like a whirlwind of snow,
For the mother it becomes harder, ever harder
as if hearing a child's cry.
She tears herself from death full of anger,
but he won't let her, won't let her go,
from his kingdom she hears the horn,
and he carries her there at a gallop!
