ביסט ווי אַ בלומען טאָפּ

,אַ ליימיק האַרטער

מיט אַ טעמפּן גלאַנץ פון אָפּגעליאַקירטן ליים

אַ געהיימע האַנט האָט אָנגעשאָטן דיך

.מיט שוואַרצער, פעטער, ערד, און פאַרזייט

,אַ שלאַנקער געוויקס האָט זיך באַוויזן

קנאָספּן האָבן אַרויסגעשפּראָצט

און וואונדערלעכע בלומען האָבן זיך געעפנט

.זיי האָבן געבליט, אָפּגעבליט

,פאַרדאַרט שטייט איצט דער שלאַנקער געוויקס

,ניט בליענדיק מער

נאָר טעמפּ און שטאָלץ

,איז נאָך אַלץ דער גלאַנץ פון דיר

!אָ, ליימענער טאָפּ

און עס קלעפּט זיך ניט מער די שוואַרצע ערד

Bist vi a Blumen Top

A leymik harter,

Mit a tempn Glants fun opgelyakirtn Leym

A geheyme Hant hot ongeshotn dikh

Mit shvartser, feter, Erd, un farzeyt.

A shlanker Geviks hot zikh bavizn,

Knospen hobn aroysgeshprotst

Un vunderlekhe Blumen hobn zikh geefnt

Zey hobn geblit, opgeblit.

Fardart shteyt itst der shlanker Geviks,

Nit bliendik mer,

Nor temp un shtolts

Iz nokh alts der Glants fun dir,

O, leymener Top!

Un es klept zikh nit mer di shvartse Erd

Tsu dayn hartn Ikh

English Translation

Oh, Sadness of the Earth

You are like a flower pot

a clay-hard one,

with a dull shine of lacquered clay

a secret hand filled you

with black, rich earth, and sown.

a slender plant appeared,

buds sprouted forth

and wonderful flowers opened

they bloomed, withered.

Withered now stands the slender plant,

no longer blooming,

yet dull and proud

still remains your shine,

O, clay pot!

And the black earth no longer clings

to your hard Iwalls

(O, sadness of the earth

with the slender plant,

that's there within you.)
