es kumt on der friling in frien vizit;
mir ale — mir trogn dos shtarbn in zinen.

Dos layb iz gelaytert, dos harts iz geraynikt, —
dos likhtikste likht oyfn tunklstn kop;
s'iz gut mit a sakh'en in payn zayn fareynikt,
un trogn di payn, vi a heylike gob.
In toyt un in zun un in onheyb fun friling,
gey oyf, un kum oyf, un in noenkayt kum tsu,
a lid mayns, un zay vi a zalbike heylung, —
a vort mayns, zay gloybn un koyekh un ru.

four big, four letters: — J, C, R, S. —
April days approach. the letters bloom
before the tulip and lilac bloom.
A golden sun rises in the morning,
spring arrives on an early visit;
we all — we carry dying in our minds.
and kiss with love the visitor's footstep.
The body is purified, the heart is cleansed, —
the brightest light on the darkest head;
it's good to be united with many in pain,
and to carry the pain, like a holy gift.
In death and in sun and in the beginning of spring,
rise up, and come, and in nearness come to,
a song of mine, and be like a soothing healing, —
a word of mine, be faith and strength and rest.
In the last minutes the eyes see everything,
at the dying one's head — the eternal yes;
my heart, like a pomegranate, is full of farewells.
and here blooms on trees a new farewell.
For me thresholds are — trembling strings,
for me a windowpane is — a miracle;
I take with me the grace of spring and sounds, —
farewell, door and gate of J, C, R, S. — —
