I've in sorrow absorbed
Work 346 of 440
Page 404. Conclusion of 'Likhtiker baginen' (Bright Dawn): 'in tser farnumen... dem zinen' (in sorrow absorbed the sense) from waiting. Will come again in bright dawn. 'Nit shrayen, nit monen' (not screaming, not demanding) — through 'trayhayt' (faithfulness) win love. In 'loyter fun gevisn' (purity of conscience) spin dream; close eyes in bright dawn. New poem 'Halber tog' (Half Day): 'glaykgevikht fun halbn tog' (equilibrium of half day), all 'blendndik un ofn' (blinding and open). Words rebound 'vi an sholn fun a vog' (like scale of a balance). Scales tear from equilibrium in meeting of 'vort un shtraln' (word and rays). Feels 'onrir fun der shol vos halt in faln' (touch of the falling scale) on his face. Learns to look 'tsu same mizrekh' (toward the very east — Hebrew 'mizrach') at naked sun, to follow voice: 'shoyn tsayt in a tunlkayt a letster zikh farukn' (already time to move to a last darkness). Through all that happened, never stopped hearing the voice, seeing 'di sho ven ikh vel keynem nit gehern' (the hour when I'll belong to no one). Not to friend either — 'a flinker vint' (quick wind) will bring 'a vayse bsure' (white message — Hebrew 'besura') — news of death.

I've in sorrow absorbed
from waiting, the sense! —
I will come again
in bright dawn.
Not screaming, not demanding —
through faithfulness win
your love, recognize
in bright dawn.
In purity of conscience
my dream spin:
the eyes to close
in bright dawn.
Half Day
It is the equilibrium of half day,
and all is so blinding and open,
friend of mine, like a scale of a balance
the word of my stanzas rebounds.
The scales tear from equilibrium
in the meeting of word and rays,
now I feel on my own face
the touch of the scale that is falling.
I learn — toward the very east
to look at the nakedness of bright sun
in order to follow the voice in me: — already time
to move toward a last darkness.
Through all that happened to me,
I haven't stopped hearing the voice,
I haven't stopped for one minute seeing
the hour when I will belong to no one.
Friend of mine, to no one — also not to you,
a quick wind will run and chase
will come knock on your window and door,
bring you to carry a white message.
