Pierced through both hands and feet and hammered with nails,
thin and naked hollow the whole body, the shame not hidden.
Below on a chain sways a dried-out lamp —
there was no one to tend it with oil and a wick.
Covered up to the neck in gray they lie and sleep,
someone rises now and then — crosses himself and goes back to lie down.
Jesus hangs alone, naked, lonely in the dusty corner,
the feet twisted, the head contorted and eyes closed.
