שטילערהײט בין איך אין טעמפּל

.הײנט פאַרטאָג געקומען

,אַך, ווי שיין איז ער, מײן אָפּגאָט

.אויסגעצירט מיט בלומען

קיינעם האָב איך ניט געטראָפן

,אין דעם טעמפּל אַלטן

בין איך האַסטיק צוגעלאָפן

.צו דעם אָפּגאָט קאַלטן

מיין כיטאָן האָב איך געלאָזן

,פון די אַקסלען פאַלן

נאַקעט, דורשטיק צו מיין אָפּגאָט

.בין איך צוגעפאַלן

מיט צערייצטע הייסע גלידער

,האָב איך אים געאָרעמט

ביז מײן ליבער, גרויסער אָפּגאָט

.האָט זיך הײס צעוואַרעמט

,איך האָב דערפילט מיט זיסן אימפּעט

,אַז איך פאַל אַנידער

האָט דער וויירעך דאָס באַרוישט מיך

?צי מיין אָפּגאָטס גלידער

Dos Lid fun a Getsndinerin

Shtilerheyt bin ikh in Templ

Haynt fartog gekumen.

Akh, vi sheyn iz er, mayn Opgot,

Oysgetsirt mit Blumen.

Keynem hob ikh nit getrofn

In dem Templ altn,

Bin ikh hastik tsugelofn

Tsu dem Opgot kaltn.

Mayn Khiton hob ikh gelozn

Fun di Akslen faln,

Naket, durshtik tsu mayn Opgot

Bin ikh tsugefaln.

Mit tsereytste heyse Glider

Hob ikh im georemt,

Biz mayn liber, groyser Opgot

Hot zikh heys tsevaremt.

Ikh hob derfilt mit zisn Impet,

Az ikh fal anider,

Hot der Vayrekh dos baroysht mikh

Tsi mayn Opgots Glider?

Shtilerheyt bin ikh in Templ

Haynt fartog gekumen.

English Translation

The Song of an Idolatress

Quietly I came to the temple

today, before the dawn came.

Ah, how beautiful he is, my idol,

adorned with flowers.

I didn't meet anyone

in the old temple,

I hastily ran up

to the cold idol.

My garment I let loose

From my shoulders falling,

Naked, thirsty for my idol

I fell before him.

With excited, hot limbs

I embraced him,

until my dear, great idol

warmed up today.

I felt with sweet impetus,

that I was falling down,

has the incense brought me

to my idol's limbs?

Quietly I came to the temple

today, before the dawn came.

Ah, how beautiful he is, my idol,

adorned with flowers.
