Page 18. This page continues 'In yedns harts' and contains two more poems. 'Zayt troyerik, mentshn' (Be Sorrowful, People) is a mystical poem where the speaker's presence pervades all humanity — his sorrow promises happiness, darkness becomes light for him. 'Du zolst tsu mir' (You Shall Not) is a reconciliation poem, asking for forgiveness and new beginnings over wine, letting the past be washed away like dew.
מסתּמא האָט געדאַרפֿט אַזוי געשען;
Un nit gevust: bist yedn tog

Du zolst tsu mir
Du zolst tsu mir nit redn mit fardros,

zol gisn zikh oyf mir dayn vayse shayn.
And didn't know: every day you went
passing by them,
listening to everyone's word,
to everyone's outcry.
You only needed to be the first
into their house to enter,
and awaken in their heart
a brightness, a glow.
Be Sorrowful, People
On all faces — my appearance,
in everyone's eyes — my gaze,
my sorrow in everyone's hearts,
my sorrow — a promise of happiness.
On everyone's lips — my smile,
in everyone's words — my joy:
the wind has not yet blown away
my breath, the scent of my garment.
Alone I am white in the darkness,
for me darkness is — light:
be sorrowful, people — don't lose
my image from your face.
You Shall Not
You shall not speak to me with grievance,
you shall not ask me when and what,
probably it had to happen so;
and what has been is already gone.
By the sparkling wine and white glow
let all be forgiven and forgotten.
Like fresh dew, like afterwine
let your white radiance pour on me.
