די הוילע צווייגן דורך די פענצטער
.זע איך גאָלדיק ברוין
.דער רויך פון פּאַפּיראָס שוועבט איבערן טיש
.אַ געזיכט אין שאָטן בלויט זיך אין דעם רויך
.די ווייך פון הימל שלעפערט איין
.און גאָלדיק איז דער שנײ
דורך פאָרהאַנגען זע איך קינדער
.שליטלען זיך אַראָפּ אין גאַס
שוואַך דערטראָגן זיך צו מיר די קולות
די בלוי פון הימל שלעפערט איין
מיין מוח און מיין האַרץ
די גאָלדיק ברוינע צווייגן

A Winter Afternoon
The blue of the sky lulls to sleep.
The bare branches through the windows
I see golden brown.
The smoke from a cigarette hovers above the table.
A face in shadow blues itself in the smoke.
The softness of the sky lulls to sleep.
And golden is the snow.
Through curtains I see children
sledding down in the street.
Faintly, their voices reach me.
The blue of the sky lulls to sleep
my brain and my heart
the golden brown branches
and the snow.
